Project Update

The project is progressing well and substantial progress has been made in recent weeks, including the successful completion of the Phase 1 surfacing works at the Crossways Boulevard roundabout, the reopening of a number of the pedestrian routes and the commissioning of the new crossing signals outside ASDA and on St Clements Way, adjacent to Bean Road.

In recognition of the increased traffic that is experienced in the Greenhithe area during the Christmas and New Year period, there is a traffic management embargo on lane closures (that reduces the original capacity of the road) in place during December and up to 7 January 2019.

Works leading up to the Christmas period are being focused on those areas not affected by the embargo, primarily the installation of new drainage and the construction of the new island at the London Road roundabout and completion of areas to enable the removal of cones and barriers from the site during the Christmas period.

Jackson will cease works on site on 21 December and recommence with a small team on 2 January 2019 before restarting in earnest on 7 January 2019. Routine safety inspections will be carried out over the holiday period to ensure the site is kept safe.

We are also now starting to plan for Phases 2 and 3 of the surfacing work, covering the area of the site in the vicinity of the London Road roundabout. The extent of these phases are shown on the plan overleaf.

As with the Phase 1 works, these two phases will be carried out under a series of road closures between 10pm and 6am. The exact dates for the closures will be confirmed in the new year but are currently expected to be toward the end of January/beginning of February. The Phase 4 surfacing of London Road will be carried out in the Spring.

We are grateful for your continued patience and cooperation whilst this work is carried out, particularly during the recent overnight surfacing works. If you do have any queries then please contact our Public Liaison Officer, Carole Jones, via email at or by telephone on 07811 157861, or please call in at the site office located in King Edward Road. Updates about the scheme will continue to be issued via Twitter @StClementsWay.

The KCC and Jackson team wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
