The Town Mayor of Swanscombe and Greenhithe, Cllr Anita Barham, had the honour of presenting certificates to 6 young men who had taken part in the first skills based activities in the town.
These young men have spent the week working with staff from the Construction Youth Trust renovating and redecorating 2 of the sports changing rooms at The Pavilion in Swanscombe. Their mentors, Wendy and Pearl, have been teaching them all aspects of decorating and team work and the group took to the task so well that the works were finished several hours ahead of schedule.
All of the participants were students from Thamesview School and they took great pride in showing both the Mayor and their Headmaster, Mr Rorke around their completed work, taking care to highlight some of the tasks they had undertaken.
The presentation event was led by Donna Jones from the Construction Youth Trust with both Wendy and Pearl not only singing the praise of the work ethic of those that took part, but also the respect they had shown each other as well as the staff at both the Pavilion and also the Old Fire Station Community Café, where they visited for lunch daily.
This is hoped to be the first of many events like this where young people from the wider area are allowed the opportunity to learn some new skills and hopefully gain some inspiration into what their future could hold.
Thank you to everyone that helped make this such a successful project.
