What a lovely way to spend Earth Day opening 3 new community spaces in Swanscombe Park. The Town Mayor Cllr Lesley Howes cut the ribbon on the Community Garden and Community Picnic Area with former Cllr Ivy Read cutting the ribbon on the Community Orchard which contains a tree dedicated to her husband former Cllr and Town Mayor the late Bryan Read.
The Town Council would like to thank both KCC Member Peter Harman and Dartford Borough Council (represented by Cllr David Mote) for their financial support to these projects.
The trees in the Community Orchard were planted either in dedication to both Bryan Read and Captain Sir Tom Moore, or sponsored by local people / businesses. One by the Town Mayor herself. Another by Katie Lynch from One Eighty Advisory and the final two from Nurture Landscapes / Gavin Jones who among other things maintain the grounds of Bluewater.
The orchard has been named the Queen Elizabeth II – Platinum Jubilee Orchard in honour of Her Majesty.
Thank you to Cllrs Barham, Ben Moussa and Cross who attended along with some members of the public.
